Crossover Church has a story to tell.

Our Goals and Vision

Crossover Church has a story to tell. That story is told on multiple platforms and in various ways. Church is one way. Music is another. Relationships are another. Loving Our City is another. This podcast will be yet another. This is a story about engaging our community and our culture in helping people put Christ on display through their everyday lives. As a unique church with unique people, we desire to help people grow and develop and want to use every platform and opportunity to share that message and that story. This podcast will feature sermons, conversations, interviews, and music in a way that will help you discover more about God, more about yourselves, and more about our call to make the world better. Our call is to provide hope, help, healing, restoration, and answers to the world around us. The Crossover Church Podcast will tell the story!

Our Story

Crossover started with a small community of people that wanted something different. They were burned out with “organized religion” – tired of the politics, the traditions and the masks people hid behind at many churches. They saw the needs of people in our city weren’t being met and they wanted to do something about it. Pastor Joe McCuthen founded Crossover Church with a few other people in the early 1990’s. They moved into an old church that was run down on North Orleans Ave. near Lowry Park Zoo. The church brought in Tommy and Lucy Kyllonen to start a youth ministry from scratch in 1996. Over the next six years, they developed a first of it’s kind Hip-Hop styled youth ministry which grew to reach hundreds weekly. During this time the Sunday services at Crossover maintained about 40 regular attenders as the lead pastor changed 3 different times during this period.

In January of 2002, Tommy Kyllonen became the lead pastor of Crossover. A new vision and structure was birthed for the church. Crossover was re-launched and the church carefully and prayerfully began to make changes to better reach the community. The church quickly grew as several new people visited and built relationships with Christ. Many soon embraced the vision and began getting discipled and involved in serving others. Within a few years the church had to add a second Sunday service, then a third and then an overflow seating area.

God has called Crossover to be a pioneer church to reach the urban community in new ways. We are multi-ethnic, multi-generational and economically diverse. The church has become internationally known through all the favorable media articles as well as the numerous CD’s, books, magazines and resources produced by Pastor Tommy (Urban D.) and other innovators at the church. Millions have visited Crossover’s website and thousands have attended our services, concerts and conferences as they look to Crossover as a model. The once run down old church campus on North Orleans was completely transformed and remodeled into a unique thriving church that grew to reach over 500 people weekly at the 3 Sunday services.

In January of 2010 the North Orleans Campus was sold to another church and Crossover began temporarily meeting in the ballrooms at a local hotel on Busch Blvd. The church actually grew during this 9 month transition period. In November of 2010 they moved into their new completely remodeled 43,000 square foot facility on Fowler Ave. (Former Toys R’ Us). With the new location and amount of space Crossover has now doubled the size of it’s congregation and has been able to serve tens of thousands of people in the community with groceries, backpacks, clothes, shoes, toys, mentoring and the love of Christ. There has been thousands of new commitments to follow Christ and over 1,300 baptisms since moving in the new facility. It’s been an amazing journey and we believe the best is yet to come as we LOVE OUR CITY – join the movement!
